Tokyo (Doolittle) Raid Map

The Tokyo Raid, also known as the Doolittle Raid, took place on 18 April 1942. 16 B-25 Mitchell bombers took off from the USS Hornet on a one-way mission to bomb targets in and around Tokyo. While not tactically important as minimal damage was done, the strategic aim of the mission was an overwhelming success. This was the first victory for the Americans of the war, which only had bad news since Pearl Harbor. 7 members of the raid died while on the mission or in captivity.

This map shows the target areas of Tokyo, Yokosuka, Kobe, Nagoya, and Yokohama as well as the intended airfields for the crews to land in China (of which no crews reached). 15 planes crashed, and 1 landed at Vladivostok, Soviet Union.
