Atlanta, Georgia 1864 Defensive Perimeter Battle Map
This map shows the defensive ring of fortifications surrounding the city of Atlanta which fell to Union forces on 2 September 1864 commanded by Major General W.T. Sherman. Sherman and his army would stay in Atlanta for about two months. In November 1864 Sherman would slash his way to Savannah and the Atlantic Ocean in what is known today as "Sherman's March To The Sea."
